How to Make the Spider Stitch

First, gather your supplies. You will need:

  • Yarn
  • Coordinating Crochet Hook
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry Needle

Crochet Spider Stitch Tutorial:

Below, you will learn how to create the spider stitch using UK double crochet. If you are in the US, this stitch is known as single crochet. The stitch is a fairly easy to learn if you know how to make a double crochet and chain.

The hardest part about creating the stitch is locating the chain one space. Always, make sure you are working into the chain one spaces, not the double crochets.

1.    Make a slip knot.

2.    Create a chain in any multiple of 2.

3.    In the second chain from the hook add a double crochet.

4.    Chain 1.

5.    Add a double crochet into the same chain as step 3.

6.    Skip 1 chain and add a double crochet into the next step.

7.    Chain 1.

8.    Add a double crochet into the same chain as before.

9.    Repeat steps 6-8 until you reach the end.

10.  Turn your work.

11.  In the 1st chain one space add a double crochet.

12.  Chain 1.

13.  Add a double crochet into the same chain one space as before.

14.  Into the next chain one add a double crochet.

15.  Chain 1.

16.  Add a double crochet into the same chain one space.

17.  Repeat steps 14-16 until you reach the end.

18.  Turn your work.

19.  Repeat steps 14-17 until you reach your desired length.
