The basket weave crochet stitch is sets of front and back post double crochet stitches that creates a fabric with a woven texture.
It’s a wonderful stitch to use for crocheting scarves, blankets and washcloths. At first glance this looks very complicated but in fact it is very easy. As a result it is a good stitch for a beginner.
The basket weave crochet stitch is so versatile. The patterns it can be used for is almost endless.
It adds amazing texture to what ever pattern you use it for. Personally I think it is perfect for blankets and beanies.

Crochet Techniques Used
Step 1: Crochet a foundation chain in a multiple of 6 plus 4. (Ex: 24 + 4 = 28)
Step 2: In the FOURTH chain stitch from your hook, work a double crochet stitch. Then continue to work a double crochet stitch in each chain stitch to the end of the row. Crochet TWO chain stitches and TURN your work.
Step 3: Skip over the first double crochet stitch next to your hook. Then in the next THREE stitches work a FRONT POST DOUBLE CROCHET (FPDB) stitch. In the following THREE stitches work a BACK POST DOUBLE CROCHET (BPDC) stitch. Alternate THREE FBDC and THREE BPDC to the end of the row. Work a double crochet stitch in the turning chain from the previous row. Work TWO more chain stitches and TURN.
Step 4: Repeat STEP 3 across the row.
Step 5: This row is worked similarly to Step 3. Skip the FIRST double crochet stitch and then alternate THREE BPDC and THREE FPDC to the end of the row. Double crochet into the turning chain from the previous row. Work TWO chain stitches and TURN your work.
Step 6: Repeat STEP 5.
Step 7: Repeat STEPS 3 through 6 until you reach your desired length.
