Crochet Diamond Stitch Tutorial:

Below, you will learn the basic steps used to create the diamond crochet stitch. To make this stitch you will need to know chain, single crochet, double crochet, front post treble crochet, and front post treble crochet 2 together.

1.    Create a foundation row. You will want a multiple of 4 plus 3.

2.    Starting in the second chain from the hook create a row of single crochet stitches.

3.    Chain 2.

4.    Turn your work.

5.    Make a row of double crochet stitches.

6.    Chain 1.

7.    Turn your work.

8.    Working around the post of the 3rd stitch, in the first row you stitched, add a front post treble crochet. To do this, wrap the yarn around the hook twice. Insert the hook around the post of the stitch. Pull up a loop.  Yarn over and pull through 2. Yarn over and pull through 2. Yarn over and pull through 2.

9.    In the next 3 stitches of your top row, make single crochet stitches.

10.  Next you will be creating a front post treble crochet 2 together. To do this start creating a front post treble crochet around the same post you worked around before. When you have 2 loops left on your hook, do not finish the front post treble crochet.

11.  Instead, wrap the working yarn around the hook twice. Now, working back into the first row, find the 4th stitch over from the previous post you worked around. Insert your hook around the post of the 4th stitch. Pull up a loop (you will have 5 loops on your hook). Yarn over and pull through 2. Yarn over and pull through 2 more. Then yarn over and pull through 3.

12.  Repeat steps 9 – 11 until you cannot add another front post treble crochet 2 together.

13.  End the row by adding a single crochet stitch.

14.  Chain 2.

15.  Turn your work.

16.  Make a row of double crochet stitches.

17.  Chain 1.

18.  Turn your work.

19.  Make 2 single crochet stitches.

20.  Now you will create another front post treble crochet 2 together. But instead of finding stitches and working around the posts, you will work around the large posts you just created. So, wrap the yarn around your hook twice. Work around the first large post. Pull up a loop. Yarn over and pull through 2. Yarn over and pull through 2 more. This will leave 2 loops on your hook.

21.  To finish the front post treble crochet 2 together, you will work around the next 2 large posts. Insert your hook through both posts and pull up a stitch. Yarn over and pull through 2. Yarn over and pull through 2 more. Then yarn over and pull through 3.

22.  In the next 3 stitches of your top row, make single crochet stitches.

23.  Now you will create another front post treble crochet 2 together. This time you will be working around the 2 large posts you previously worked around. Insert your hook through both posts, and wrap the yarn around your hook twice. Work around the first large post. Pull up a loop. Yarn over and pull through 2. Yarn over and pull through 2 more. This will leave 2 loops on your hook.

24.  To finish the front post treble crochet 2 together, you will work around the next 2 large posts. Insert your hook through both posts and pull up a stitch. Yarn over and pull through 2. Yarn over and pull through 2 more. Then yarn over and pull through 3.

25.  Repeat steps 22 – 24 until you cannot add another front post treble crochet 2 together.

26.  Finish the row with 3 single crochet stitches.

27.  Chain 2.

28.  Turn your work.

29.  Start the next row by creating a single front post treble crochet into the first large post.

30.  In the next 3 stitches of your top row, make single crochet stitches.

31.  Now continue making the peaks and valleys by repeating the front post treble crochet 2 together stitches and single crochet stitches.
