By just looking at the pattern this stitch makes, you’ll understand why it’s called the Waffle Crochet Stitch. It creates repeating squares which looks just like a waffle.

Remember we said this is an easy stitch to learn? It only uses Double crochet and Front post double crochet stitches to make the squares that characterizes this stitch.

As a result, this stitch creates a gorgeous texture that works well with almost anything. The raised stitches makes up the repeating squares that creates the beautiful texture.

The fabric generated by this stitch looks pleasing to the eye, although we must warn you, it uses a lot of yarn. So prepare a lot of yarns, bring out your hook, and get ready to learn how to make the Waffle Crochet Stitch!

Crochet Waffle Stitch Written Instructions

To start, make a foundation chain in multiples of 3, and add 4 more chains. 

Row 1: Double crochet in the 2nd chain from the hook and in each stitch across. Chain 1, Turn.

Row 2: Double crochet on the top of the first stitch. * Make a Front Post Double Crochet on the around the next stitch. Double crochet in the next two stitches. * Continue working on this pattern until the end of the row. Double crochet into the turning chain.

Row 3: Chain 1, turn. Double crochet on the top of the first stitch. * Double crochet on the top of the next stitch, Front Post Double crochet on the next two stitches. * Continue working on this pattern until the end of the row. Make a double crochet on the last stitch.

Repeat Row 2 and Row 3 until you reach your desired length.
