Catherine’s Wheel Crochet Stitch Tutorial

As a crochet enthusiast myself, I am always on the lookout for new stitches. I don’t tend to follow entire patterns for projects, so I like to learn different stitches that I can then turn into my own patterns.

The Catherine’s Wheel crochet stitch is a perfect addition to my personal collection of stitches.

The stitch looks similar to the Sunburst and Harlequin stitches but is just different enough to be its own stitch.

The Catherine’s Wheel crochet stitch is made from of fans and clusters. These fans and clusters are created using a combination of chain stitch, single crochet and double crochet.

You can change up the finished look by using one, two or three colors.

Each of these color combinations really changes up the finished product so it is fun to play around with different colors and keeps the pattern fresh!

The Catherine’s Wheel crochet stitch can be used for afghans, wrist warmers, hats, boot cuffs and more!

How to Crochet the Catherine’s Wheel Stitch

This is considered an intermediate level crochet stitch. One thing that is really great about this stitch is that it looks much more complicated than it really is!

Supplies Needed

  • Your choice of yarn
  • Your choice of hook size

The size, weight, and any other dimensions will be affected by the yarn and hook you choose. Generally, I would probably use a medium or sport weight yarn and a size I hook as my tension tends to be a little tight.

How to Finish the Catherine’s Wheel Crochet Stitch

The easiest way to finish is to work a single crochet stitch edging around the finished product.

This will create a nice, professional looking finished product as well as hiding the loose ends from changing colors along the way.

You can work the edging all in one color or a row each of each color you used. However, you would like your finished project to look!
